Open Groups in the left sidebar to make a shared place for people from Contacts. You can talk in channels, add files, and host Personas other members can call. A question in Ask anything is a chat other members do not see.

Invite people

An Admin adds people from Contacts with Share, or starts pairing someone new.

Talk in a channel

Post to everyone in the Group, reply in a thread, and type @ to call a Persona.

Ask without posting

Ask anything can use the Group’s files and channel messages. Other members do not see your chats.

Share files and Personas

Add documents and host your Personas in Shared knowledge so other members can use them.

Create a Group

1

Open Groups

Click Groups in the left sidebar.
2

Start a new one

Click New group.
3

Name it

Type a Group name. Description (optional) can say what the Group is for. Create group stays off until the name has text.
4

Create it and open it

Click Create group. The Group appears on the list. Click it to open it on Overview, which shows recent activity, channels, shared knowledge, and members. The bar at the top switches between Overview, Ask anything, and Shared knowledge.
A Persona you host in a Group stays on your computer. When another member calls it, the call is sent to your computer, and your computer runs the Persona. They can call it only while your computer is online.

Invite people to a Group

An Admin can add people. The person has to be in Contacts first.
1

Open Share

Click Share in the top right of the Group.
2

Add people

Under Add people, search for a contact and add them. They join the Group.
3

Or pair someone new

Click Pair a new contact to open Contacts and generate an invite. After they pair, add them under Add people. The pairing steps are on Contacts.
4

Manage access

Under People with access, an Admin can change a role to Contributor or Admin, or click Remove from group.
Any member can add a channel, a document, or one of their Personas. On Overview, you can click Add contact on a member who is not in your Contacts. They accept the invite under Requests in Contacts.

Post in a channel

Messages in a channel are shared with everyone in the Group.
1

Add a channel

Click Add channel under Channels in the sidebar, or on Overview. Type a name and press Enter. The new channel opens.
2

Post a message

Type in the box at the bottom of the channel and send it. Type @ and pick a Persona or a member from the list to tag them.
3

Reply to a message

Hover over a message and click Reply to message. A preview of that message sits above the box. Your reply goes into that message’s thread.
Press Escape to cancel the reply.
4

Edit your message

Hover over your own message and click Edit message. Change the text and click Save. The message shows (edited).

Reply in a thread

A thread keeps a side conversation on one message out of the main channel.
1

Open the thread

Hover over a message and click Reply in thread. The thread opens beside the channel, with the original message at the top.
2

Reply

Type in the thread’s box and send it. Under the original message in the channel, a count such as 2 replies shows how many replies the thread has. Click the count to open the thread again.
3

Call a Persona

Type @ and pick a Persona from the list. While it works, the message shows that the Persona is responding. Its reply appears in the thread with a Persona label. If the call fails, click Retry.
After a Persona replies in a thread, your next reply there asks the same Persona again. Remove its name from the box to reply without asking it.
4

Close the thread

Click Close thread, or press Escape.
Reply in thread and the reply count are hidden when the window is narrow. Widen the window to open a thread.

Ask anything

Open Ask anything and send a question. Your questions and the replies are a private chat that other members do not see. Click New chat to start another. The question can use files on Shared knowledge and messages from channels. A question can still be processed on another member’s computer, such as the one that hosts a Persona you call. Type @ and pick a Persona to ask that Persona. A question without a Persona uses the Group’s shared knowledge, and it can add a hosted Persona that fits. That combined reply is labeled Group answer.

Shared knowledge

Open Shared knowledge to add documents and host Personas.
  • Click Add document and choose one or more files. Each member’s computer downloads the files, and adds them to its knowledge base when it can.
  • Click Add persona and pick one of your Personas to host it.
To remove a document, open its options menu and click Remove. The document is removed from Shared knowledge for everyone in the Group. You can add it again later. To stop hosting a Persona, open its options menu and click Remove from this group. The person who added a document or Persona can remove it, and so can an Admin.
On a Tier 1 computer, shared files download for sharing with other members, but they are not indexed or searchable on that computer. See System for your tier.
A message, a file, and a Persona call move between the computers of people in the Group. See the Privacy Policy.

Leave or delete a Group

Click the More icon (three dots) in the top right of the Group, then click Leave group. You lose access to the channels and members of that Group. An Admin can invite you back. Leaving does not delete your Personas from Personas. If you are the only member, leaving deletes the Group. If you are the only Admin, make another member an Admin before you leave.
An Admin can click Delete group in the same menu. The Group is removed for every member, along with its channels and messages. This can’t be undone.

Common questions

An Admin can open Share, add people from Contacts, change roles between Contributor and Admin, and remove someone from the Group. Any member can add a channel, a document, or one of their Personas. Adding someone in Contacts does not put them in a Group.
On Overview, click Add contact on a member who is not already in your Contacts. They accept the invite under Requests in Contacts.
A Persona you host in a Group stays on your computer. When another member calls it, the call is sent to your computer, and your computer runs the Persona.
Shared knowledge is where members add documents and host Personas for the Group. On a Tier 1 computer, shared files download but are not indexed or searchable on that computer.
A channel is where members post messages and reply in threads. Everyone in the Group sees them. Ask anything is a chat other members do not see. Replies are not posted to the Group. A question without a Persona gets a combined reply labeled Group answer.
