Messages is a full-screen app for managing all your conversations — both direct messages with contacts and group chat from spaces.

What you’ll find

  • All conversations in one place. See your direct messages and space chats in a unified view.

  • Persistent threads. Pick up conversations where you left off. Messages persist across sessions.
  • Offline delivery. Anything sent while a contact is offline gets delivered when they return.

Reactions

React to any message with an emoji. Reactions appear inline below the message so the conversation stays clean while still letting you acknowledge or respond quickly.

Typing and unread indicators

  • Typing indicators — See when someone is actively composing a message, in both direct messages and space chat.
  • Unread badges — Badges show unread counts for both DMs and space chat so you know at a glance if you’ve missed something.

Chats panel

The Chats button in the top right of the navigation bar opens a sidebar with quick access to your conversations without leaving your current view. It shows your contacts, their online status, and any ongoing threads. You can also add new contacts directly from this panel.

Encryption

Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted. Messages are encrypted with the recipient’s public key before sending — only they can decrypt them. If a contact is offline, messages are encrypted at rest and delivered when they return.
