The Files app lets you organize, view, and share documents, images, and other files stored in webAI.

Managing files

  • Upload files by dragging them into the app or using the upload button.
  • Organize files into folders for easy access.
  • Preview content directly — text, images, PDFs, and more.
  • Version history — Browse earlier versions of a file and restore if needed.
  • Share files directly with contacts or into a space.

File indexing

The app can scan and index folders on your computer so your local files become searchable from the home screen and accessible to the AI.
File indexing is only available in the desktop app. The browser version doesn’t have access to your local filesystem.

How it works

1

Enable file indexing

Turn on file indexing in Settings, then select the folders you want to include — Documents, Desktop, Downloads, or any folder you choose. Quick-add buttons for common locations make it easy to get started.
2

Files become searchable

Once indexed, your files show up in the Files app under “Indexed Files” and in search results from the home screen. Browse them in a folder tree, search by name, and click to reveal any file in Finder.
3

Filter by file type

Choose which file types to include — documents, images, code, media — or add custom extensions. Include only specific types or exclude the ones you don’t care about.

What stays on your device

The index is stored in a local database on your machine. No file contents, paths, or metadata are sent anywhere.

Pausing and resuming scans

If a scan is taking a while, stop it and come back later. Progress is saved, and the partial index is still usable. On macOS, folders that need additional permission are flagged so you can grant access selectively.

AI integration

When Oasis is set up, the file index gives it awareness of what’s on your machine — so you can ask questions about your files or have it search for things by name.
