Moderation actions
Mute
Temporarily silence a participant’s audio in voice chat. They can still participate in text chat and see all shared content.- Specify an optional duration or mute indefinitely.
- Unmute at any time from the user management panel.
- Muted users can see the conversation transcript but their audio is not broadcast.
Kick
Immediately disconnect a participant from the space. The kicked user must rejoin using the room code.- Kicking does not prevent the user from rejoining.
- Useful for temporary disruptions or when someone joined by mistake.
Ban
Permanently prevent a participant from accessing the space. Banned users are rejected at the connection handshake if they attempt to rejoin.- Bans persist for the lifetime of the space.
- Bans are tied to the user’s device identity (ODID).
- Only the host can ban participants — the host cannot be banned.
How to moderate
- Open the People panel in your space.
- Click on the participant you want to moderate.
- Choose Mute, Kick, or Ban from the available actions.
- Optionally provide a reason for the action.
Notes
- Moderation is only available to the space host.
- If the host leaves and a new host is elected (via relay takeover or peer election), the new host inherits moderation capabilities.
- Bans are enforced before the welcome handshake — banned users never see the space content.
