When you host a space, you have moderation tools to manage participants and keep collaboration productive.

Moderation actions

Mute

Temporarily silence a participant’s audio in voice chat. They can still participate in text chat and see all shared content.
  • Specify an optional duration or mute indefinitely.
  • Unmute at any time from the user management panel.
  • Muted users can see the conversation transcript but their audio is not broadcast.

Kick

Immediately disconnect a participant from the space. The kicked user must rejoin using the room code.
  • Kicking does not prevent the user from rejoining.
  • Useful for temporary disruptions or when someone joined by mistake.

Ban

Permanently prevent a participant from accessing the space. Banned users are rejected at the connection handshake if they attempt to rejoin.
  • Bans persist for the lifetime of the space.
  • Bans are tied to the user’s device identity (ODID).
  • Only the host can ban participants — the host cannot be banned.

How to moderate

  1. Open the People panel in your space.
  2. Click on the participant you want to moderate.
  3. Choose Mute, Kick, or Ban from the available actions.
  4. Optionally provide a reason for the action.
Moderation actions are broadcast to all participants in the space to maintain consistency.

Notes

  • Moderation is only available to the space host.
  • If the host leaves and a new host is elected (via relay takeover or peer election), the new host inherits moderation capabilities.
  • Bans are enforced before the welcome handshake — banned users never see the space content.
