# Share work with someone

> Pair a contact, create a Group, and add a document you both can use.

Someone else needs the same file on their machine. Pair them in Contacts, create a Group, add them, then put a document in **Shared knowledge**.

**1. Generate an invite**

Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then **Settings**, then **Contacts**. Click **Add contact**, then **Generate invite**. Share the QR code, or click **Copy invite link** or **Email**. Each invite works for multiple people for 30 minutes. A countdown shows when it expires.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Generate invite** and **Pair** need a connection on the device that starts or accepts the invite. When the countdown ends, generate another invite.

**2. They pair with you**

They open Contacts, click **Add contact**, paste the link under **Paste an invite link**, and click **Pair**. Opening the invite link fills that field. They still click **Pair**. They appear in your list with their name. They are not in a Group yet.

**3. Create a Group**

Click **Groups** in the left sidebar. Click **New group**. Give it a **Group name**. Click **Create group**. The Group is on the list. Click it to open it.

**4. Add them**

Click **Share** in the top right of the Group. Under **Add people**, add the contact. They join the Group. An Admin can invite people from **Share**. If **Add people** has no one to add, they are not in Contacts yet.

**5. Add a document**

Open **Shared knowledge**. Click **Add document** and choose the file. Each member's computer downloads it, and adds it to its knowledge base when it can. You are done when they are in the Group and that file is there.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Ask anything** in the Group is a private chat for you. Replies are not posted to the Group. Pairing and status are on [Contacts](https://developers.webai.com/settings/contacts.md). Channels, threads, hosted Personas, and roles are on [Groups](https://developers.webai.com/using-webai/groups.md).
