# Research a topic

> Ask Researcher a bounded topic, then pin or keep the answer.

You do not have the answer yet. You want enough understanding to move. On **Home**, pick **Researcher**, ask a bounded topic, and keep what comes back.

**1. Open Home**

Click **Home** in the left sidebar. Chat is on the right.

**2. Pick Researcher**

Click the Persona icon and pick **Researcher**. Or type `@` and choose it from the list. Leave the icon on **Auto** if you want webAI to choose. When none of your Personas fits, **General Assistant** answers.

**3. Ask a bounded topic**

Name the question and the scope, such as `What changed in macOS Tahoe privacy settings, and what should a desktop app document?` Click the send icon.

**4. Keep the answer**

The reply writes into Chat. If a plan or comparison helps, it appears on the canvas. **Pin to canvas** keeps that view. **Edit in Docs** opens a document you can keep working on. When the reply lists sources, click a citation to open that document's preview. A source held only on someone else's device shows **Preview unavailable**. If Researcher answered from documents it can read, the canvas can show those passages as a board. You are done when you have an answer you can reuse.
